I painted my living room in a deep, earthy tan (Behr "cup of cocoa" to be exact). Love the color but it makes room too dark. I'd like to keep the top 3 feet that color and change the lower 5 feet to something much lighter. (Going for a modern look so wainscotting is out) I'd really appreciate advive on color choices and other tips on how to transition. I'm thinking a simple two tone wall without any particular divider between the colors. Thanks Very Much!

Hi, I live in a studio apartment with very very old kitchen appliances and Ebony color cabinets. I wanted to shield the bad view of the kitchen from the living space and installed a brown curtain rod (12ft length) at a height of 7ft from carpeted floor. The side walls are cream color painted but one wall is brick. The other area of the room is modern with lake view balcony. I like modern style, warm look. Please help me answer the following questions. 1) What height of the curtain is perfect? 7ft, which brings it all the way to the floor? 2) What color to choose? It has to be clean in the day as well as romantic(yep for special occasions :) )in the night preferably with yellow lamp lighting. Personally I like red. Will it work? 3) What kind of fabric to choose? 4) Plain or design? Thanks, Krish.

I share a room with my sister, and I do NOT want girly colors, and I don't like gothic either. I like black and white with bright green or blue, but I don't know how to use all the 'oldish' furniture we have with the modern colors I like. Also, I don't want a room divider, because it makes the room feel smaller. My sister agrees with pretty much everything, but she needs somewhere to put all her junk that she takes into our room. Help, please!

We are trying to think of a nice way to gain privacy without adding curtains to the full length windows that are on either side of our front door. Plants don't work quite right. Our home is furnished in modern, clean lined furniture. We would like something to warm up the space a little, but want to avoid cliches and anything frilly, and it needs to be functional ie. moved out of the way of the incoming sunlight during the day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
