How to decorate my small studio?
http://www.ikea…
I'm planning on getting a small studio apartment within 2 months, and I've decided to use the above bookcase as a room divider (my bed will be behind the bookcase for a level of separation).
However, I'm not exactly sure what all I should put on the shelves for decoration! Otherwise it might just look completely bare. Books are an obvious choice, however I don't have enough to fill the whole case.
Any suggestions on what to put on the shelves?
Thanks!

I love the bookcase and that is a very good idea to use it for some separation. Books, a vase, a couple of framed photos (maybe some in an acrylic cube so you can see the photos from either side. Don't feel that you have to fill every single cube with an item. I see decorating magazines all the time that leave open space in cube type bookshelves. Leave a couple of them empty on purpose. Then if you need a place to display something later on, you have available space. If you cram too much on every possible surface, it will make a small space look even tinier. When you display fewer things, those things have more of an impact. Enjoy your new home.
i liked the book case idea ,,,but it looks too boxier , can u live with too much boxes over ur head...i know i cant ....u can use .a sleek bookcase and do large mirrors in ur beds side to create the illusion of large space .. but if u need a room divider u shd check this one out its really good . http://2modern.…
top: plants, candles
shelves: books
photos
small ornaments, figurines
jewelry or other decorative boxes?
PS: 1] note product info:
'this item must be secured to wall' -
will NOT be safe as a room divider
2] would your landlord let you secure anything to wall?
will that invalidate your damage deposit?

I would be concerned about stability if you can't bolt it down. But, if you MUST, make sure that the bottom shelves have the heaviest items on them, such as books. The higher the level, the lighter the items. You can use vases, plates on stands, decorative boxes, a pretty clock. Try to fill each space with one large thing, not several little pieces, which will look cluttered. If you have a collection of purses, they can serve as decorative items as well.
