Best way to raise three bookcases off the floor?
I'm using three tall 15" deep bookcases as a room divider, 12' wide. They will be connected together for stability, and to a wall at one end and a 12" wide and deep wooden column at the other.

I would like to raise the bookcases off the floor by 6" with an overhang on the 'open' side of 3" - the bookcases will be flush to the column on the 'closed' side and so jutting out 3" on the other side.

I'm looking for suggestions of the best way to raise those bookcases. I have a lot of wood about, including a couple of planks that are the right width and, when stacked, the right height, but as you can imagine with wood that long there are minor twists and inconsistencies that prevent them from being completely flat.

Is there a technique to do this other than stacking the planks and drilling them down into the floor in the hope they will straighten out?! Thanks.

you could use bricks also wrapped if you do not like the look or leave them open to use the cub-by holes to put items in, could paint them also easy enough.
Hi You can use builders blocks some are easy to cut to size with a masonry hand saw, you can then paint or cover with tiles or even aluminium tape or fabalon wood effect. you can also fit adjustable legs, fitted to the bottom of the shelve units that would help with the uneven floor the adjustable legs look good inexpensive They are easy to get in the UK on line Ross Handling
